Tool Crib Rules

A tool crib will be established so that members of the Chapter will have access to specialized aircraft tools that they do not own at a reasonable cost. Tools will be rented to EAA Chapter 691 members in good standing with the chapter and who are not in default of some other tool checkout. Tools will be rented to members at a cost that allows replacement of the tool after its useful lifetime.

  • Rental fee equals 2% of the value of the tool or a minimum of $5.00 based on the tool, to be determined by the board.
  • Tool must be checked out and requires:
    • A 50% deposit of the value of the tool.
    • Checkout date.
    • Return date not to exceed two weeks from checkout.
    • Payment of rental fee.
    • Checkout on tool use by Tool Crib attendant. A telephone briefing may be used.
    • Signature on rental agreement including hold harmless agreement.
  • Default
    • If you break it, you pay for it.
    • If not returned on time, 50% deposit is deposited to the EAA account.
    • If tool is not returned on time, a weekly fee of 5% of tool value is charged up to total value of the tool.
    • Members in default may not checkout any other tools until the default is fixed.
  • Tool crib Attendants are two EAA board members and two members of the Hanger association. Initially Jeff Scott, Will Fox, Roger Smith, Skip Egdorf
  • Attendant responsibilities
    • Control access to the Tool Crib.
    • Trained in use of tools for checkout purposes.
    • Ensure that rental fees and deposits are collected and rental agreement is executed.
    • Demonstrate the use of the tool as part of the tool checkout procedures.
    • Evaluate the condition of the tool when returned.
    • Check function of tool.
    • Check cleanliness of tool.
    • Check lubrication, consumables level, etc. of the tool.
    • Return deposit to renter, when tool is returned on time.
    • Maintain the tool crib inventory list.
    • Transfer tool deposits to Chapter Treasurer for deposit in the Chapter account for late returns.
  • Treasurer responsibilities
    • Collect tool rental fees once a month.
    • Deposit tool rental deposits in Chapter account for late tools.
    • Assess 5% late fee as described in defaults.
    • Return tool rental deposit, less late fee, to renter once tool has been returned in good condition.
    • Notify Chapter president when any Chapter member is not in compliance with the tool rental agreement.
